Be Proud Publishing wants to offer you a new literary experience by building a strong sense of community. It will be used as a source to help people, to inspire people, and to commend people on stories worth talking about.
About Be Proud Publishing
Founded in 2016, I developed Be Proud Publishing to primarily write for children; with plans to expand content for teens and young adults over the coming years. With my main focus on mental health and adversity, I write from personal experience and imagination to promote a greater well-being. Over time, I plans to work with other local writers, illustrators, and editors as I gears up to introduce even more stories with brave and courageous characters.
I have two books published to date, Roar Baby Dinosaur and The Polka Dot Frog. Both books can be found for sale at the various local events I attend within the Greater Vancouver area, and at a local gift shop located in Torbay, Newfoundland called Think Outside The Box. My books can also be bought through the use of my website and has given me the opportunity to distribute world-wide!
About Me (Kayla LaSaga)
Born and raised in Newfoundland, I has prominent memories of reading books such as Pippi Longstockings and Harry Potter over and over again. I loved getting lost in magical worlds, and related to characters who went against all odds. It was because of these books, I was left with a desire for adventure, exploration, and a thirst to see the world through my very own eyes.
In 2008, I graduated as class valedictorian from a two-year 3D Animation Program located in my hometown of Stephenville, NL. That same year, I moved across Canada to continue my education at Vancouver Film School for Film Production in British Columbia. Landing my first film and television gig in 2010, I quickly made Vancouver, B.C. my home away from home and have been working consecutively in the film industry since.
In the meantime, I've enrolled in and completed evening writing courses which doubled as a form of therapy. Pairing my need to write with my desire to illustrate has been the perfect marriage of two passions to develop Be Proud Publishing.
Today, I aim to grow my once passion-project into a thriving, successful company, while continuing to work in film. My goal is to bring the world together through the gift of story, as my Mi'kmaq ancestors continue to do.
